ADHD (Easy read)

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Having ADHD means that your brain works differently to other peoples’ brains. It can make it hard to focus. It can make you want to fidget or move around a lot. It can make you do things without thinking.

Energy

People with ADHD can have lots of energy.

ADHD can make it hard to sit and listen in school.

ADHD can make it hard to take turns in games or talking.

ADHD can make you talk a lot, even when other people are trying to talk.

Attention

ADHD can make it hard to pay attention on things you find boring for long periods.

ADHD can make it hard to judge how long things will take. Lots of people with ADHD are late a lot.

ADHD can make you lose things or forget where you put them.

ADHD can make you super interested in one thing. This usually doesn’t last very long and then you get bored and find something else.

Tiredness

ADHD can make it hard to sleep. It can make people very tired or slow in the day time.

Not everyone with ADHD has all these things.

What else might it be?

Having problems with attention or energy does not always mean you have ADHD. Lots of other things can cause this too. Worrying can make you feel like you have lots of energy and can make it hard to pay attention. Taking some drugs can also do this. Our couples counselling services are designed to help you and your partner improve communication, work through conflicts, and strengthen your relationship. Our experienced therapists are here to guide you through the process and help you build a strong and healthy relationship.

Autism

Autism can also seem a lot like ADHD. People with autism can find it hard to make friends. They don’t always know what other people are feeling. They can find it hard to know if people are lying or joking.

People with autism can get really upset or angry all of a sudden and not always know why.

Some people with autism have one special thing that they want to do or talk about all the time. Some people really like trains or anime or horses. They can get annoyed when they are not able to talk or think about those things.

Lots of people with autism don’t like loud noises, bright lights, some textures or tastes. This can mean that it’s hard for them to go into busy places. It might mean that they only eat the same foods on repeat.

How do I find out if I have ADHD?

You can ask your doctor. They will book you in for a test. This is usually best. It’s free. If you need medicine, they can give you this. You might have to wait a long time for this.

If you are in a hurry, you can pay a company for a test. You should make sure that your doctor says that the company you choose is a good one. You should check that the person doing the test is a doctor as well.

How do RRJ Therapy test for ADHD?

Children

· We will have a phone call and talk about the test. You can decide if you would like us to test your child for ADHD.

· We will meet with your child at our office. We will get to know them.

· We will then talk to you and anyone else you would like to bring. This will take one or two hours.

· We will then send you some questions to answer. There will be a set of questions for you. There will be one for your child. There will be one for a teacher to fill in.
